Electro-Industrial Band STATE OF THE UNION unveils their latest single release, PURGATORY.
Purgatory is a song that explores suicide. At some point or another, as human beings, we go through the ups and downs and rollercoaster of life; some of us have a harder time than others dealing with these emotions, and some of us can even get to a point where all we want is an exit from this world; like a very bad trip or really bad hangover, we want to make it end as fast as we can. Thus we could get to the point or brink of committing suicide as we see no other option. In esoteric belief, it is said that a person who commits suicide disrupts the karmic flow of things and in this case goes to a place where there is no time, as it is both definite and infinite, a dimension where time doesn’t exist, a place where one second could feel like millions of years! this is very hard to comprehend or try to fathom with our human minds; to be able to have, sort of, a close experience to something like that, it is said that we have to have an out-of-body experience and travel to a very low-frequency state or dimension known as Purgatory. In some religions, Purgatory is known as the place where spirits go to pay for their sins and burn karma before they move on to their next life experience. All in all, we will never know unless we go there, that’s why it is better to keep making powerful electronic dance music that makes clubgoers get on the dance floor and dance their night away to a song like Purgatory.
Musically speaking, Purgatory starts out with a very far-away distant, dark, sinister, blowing gritty trumpet that ends with a fade-out delay as if falling into the vowels of hell!… and as if this wasn’t enough then all instruments begin with a very powerful four on the floor beat that incorporates a moving analog bass sound reminiscent of some of the iconic EBM bands from the 90s.
Johann Sebastian, the producer and lead singer of the band, delivers with his deep dark raspy, sinister voice; “demonic figures in my head, dragging me down… reality is out of sight, as I fall apart, deep in the dark…” a haunting vocal line that inspires fear and transports you into the realm of the concept of the song, purgatory.
Johann, Jimmy & Co. embark on tour this summer starting out on August 26 at the Grand Opening of a new concert venue in Anaheim, California. following with a show in Las Vegas before they set off to Mexico; playing in the border city of Tijuana on Sep 1. and also having a show at a music festival in Mexico City on Sep 2. From there going south to Costa Rica, playing at an incredible venue in San Jose. Three days of relaxation and sightseeing before they head to South America; starting with a show in Lima. Moving south to Santiago de Chile on the next day and finally ending this South American leg of the tour with a show on Sep 10 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. From there they will return to the US where they have already booked a show in Tampa with Communion’s After Dark notable character, Mark Paradise. They are currently in the process of booking more shows in the US as well as in Europe; make sure to catch them at one of their upcoming shows and listen to Purgatory live.
